History

The Lancaster JetHawks Professional Baseball Club took flight in 1996 and has attracted over two million fans to Clear Channel Stadium at Lancaster, CA in 13 seasons, an average of nearly 3,000 fans per game since its inception. In 2005, the JetHawks became the third-fastest team in California League history to reach the two-million-fan milestone. Fans and sponsors agree that there is no better family entertainment value than the Antelope Valley's only professional sports franchise.

The JetHawks are the Class A affiliate of the Major League Houston Astros and are a member of the ten-team California League. The circuit plays a 140-game regular season schedule with clubs located throughout the Golden State in the following markets (Major League affiliate in parentheses):

  • Bakersfield (Texas Rangers)
  • High Desert (Seattle Mariners)
  • Inland Empire (Los Angeles Dodgers)
  • Lake Elsinore (San Diego Padres)
  • Modesto (Colorado Rockies)
  • Rancho Cucamonga (Los Angeles Angels)
  • San Jose (San Francisco Giants)
  • Stockton (Oakland Athletics)
  • Visalia (Arizona Diamondbacks)

Over 80 players have gone from Lancaster to play at the Major League level since the club began play, with notables such as Jose Cruz, Jr., Brandon Webb, Carlos Quentin and Dan Uggla leading the list. In 2006, Webb became the first former JetHawks player to win one of the major awards when he earned the National League Cy Young Award. It was also the first season in which three former JetHawks were named All-Stars with Webb, Florida Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla, and Colorado Rockies closer Brian Fuentes all representing the National League. That feat was matched in 2008 when Uggla, Chicago White Sox outfielder Carlos Quentin and Webb were named to the Mid-Season Classic at Yankee Stadium.

The JetHawks began its existence as a Seattle Mariners affiliate, a relationship that spanned the first five years of the club's existence. Following its affiliation with the Mariners, the club moved into the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. In 2006 the JetHawks entered into a very fruitful relationship with the Boston Red Sox before signing an affiliation agreement with the Houston Astros prior to the 2009 season.

All 70 JetHawks home games are played at Clear Channel Stadium at Lancaster, CA, one of the premier facilities in minor league baseball. The $14.5 million facility offers luxury skyboxes, a state-of-the-art video message board, and an old-fashioned manual scoreboard. The stadium can accommodate over 7,000 fans and features slightly over 4,600 permanent full chair stadium seats. Two expansive grass berm general admission areas are available when all seats are sold out to make a perfect setting for families to stretch out with a blanket and take in a ballgame.
