Salvador Paniagua Homers Twice in JetHawks Win
Lancaster wins their fifth straight series encompassing entire second half
(LANCASTER, CA) – The JetHawks had not lost a single series in the second half, and they kept the trend going Friday night at Clear Channel Stadium. Salvador Paniagua hit two home runs and the JetHawks got strong pitching and defense as they defeated Inland Empire 7-4. Lancaster has won all five series they have played in the second half and extend their lead in the second half to four games.
Neither team scored through the first four innings. John Barnes used his knuckleball to hold 66ers hitters to three runs in five innings of work. Barnes came out with his team on top thanks to a five-run fourth inning. Salvador Paniagua hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning, then a solo shot in the fifth, becoming the tenth JetHawks player this season to hit two or more home runs in a game.
Jose Vaquedano hurled three innings of scoreless relief to help keep his team on top. Chad Rhoades pitched the final inning to close the game out.
Each team lost one of their top players to injury. Inland Empire starter Jesus Castillo left in the fourth inning while JetHawks slugger Aaron Bates left after he was hurt trying to field a ball in the sixth inning. Zak Farkes finished the game at first in Bates’ place.
The JetHawks begin a six-game road trip Saturday night with their first game of the season against the Stockton Ports. Mike Rozier (3-5, 7.68) pitches for Lancaster against the Ports’ Brad Davis (3-2, 4.11). The game starts at 7:05 PM and will be broadcast on radio at Magic 1340 AM, as well as on internet at www.JetHawks.com. The Pre-Game Show starts at 6:50.
