JetHawks Suffer Biggest Loss in Franchise History in 30-0 Defeat
Storm tie franchise record with 28 hits
(LANCASTER, CA) – The 2,363 fans who came to Clear Channel Stadium to celebrate Military Appreciation Weekend Friday night witnessed JetHawks history. It was not history any JetHawks player would want to be part of, but history nonetheless. The Lake Elsinore Storm set JetHawks opponent records for most runs in a game, most home runs in a game, and biggest margin of victory with a 30-0 win over the JetHawks. The Storm also tied the record for most hits allowed by the JetHawks in a single game.
The Storm came within just a few runs of entering the California League record book. The most runs ever scored in a Cal League game is 34, set by Fresno against Ventura May 23, 1947. They fell just one hit short of the all-time Cal League record of 29, set most recently by Rancho Cucamonga against Visalia August 10, 1997.
It was also a revenge game in the history of the two clubs. The JetHawks all-time record for most runs scored in a game, 27, was set against Lake Elsinore August 15, 1999. The previous opponent record against the JetHawks, 23, was also set by the Storm.
The downpour of runs started in the first inning. The Storm got a pair of home runs to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Matt Antonelli and Kyle Blanks each had six hits in the game for the Storm and Yordany Ramirez drove in seven runs. The Storm’s six home runs were an opposition all-time high.
Matt Buschmann pitched six and two-thirds scoreless innings to get the win for the Storm. JetHawks starter Kris Johnson suffered the loss after giving up eight runs in an inning and a third.
The JetHawks continue an eight-game homestand Saturday evening against the Lake Elsinore Storm. Matt Goodson (0-0, 1.50) pitches for the JetHawks. The Storm counter with Brent Carter (5-2, 4.68). The game starts at 5:00 and will be broadcast on radio at Magic 1340 AM, as well as on internet at www.JetHawks.com. The pre-game show will begin at 4:45.
It will be the second day of the JetHawks annual Military Appreciation Weekend. There will be a post-game fireworks spectacular, presented by Wal-Mart.
