Ross Seaton hurls 7 1/3 scoreless innings, strikes out Manny Ramirez twice

(SAN BERNARDINO, CA) – For the second straight night, the Manny Ramirez factor proved to be a non-factor. JetHawks starter Ross Seaton struck him out twice, and a solo home run by David Flores proved to be enough as the JetHawks shutout Inland Empire 4-0 Sunday night. The JetHawks now have their first three-game winning streak since early May and have won three road games in a row for the first time this season.

Following the lead of Leandro Cespedes a night before, Seaton went right after the 12-time All-Star Ramirez. Trying to get back into a rhythm after a brief stint on the disabled list with a hamstring sprain, the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder grounded out weakly to shortstop in his first at bat. Seaton then struck him out in their final two conflicts, with Ramirez staring at first a fastball, then a curveball to go down looking both times. Ramirez announced after completing his scheduled three at bats that he will play for Inland Empire once again.

The game stayed tied until the fifth inning. David Flores opened the frame by driving a 1-1 fastball over the left field wall for his ninth home run of the season. Later in the same inning, Albert Cartwright’s triple scored Brandon Wikoff. Cartwright then scored on a ground ball off the bat of Jay Austin as the JetHawks gathered three runs. They added another in the sixth when Federico Hernandez tripled and scored on a wild pitch.

The pitching had little difficulty holding the lead. Seaton pitched a season-high seven and 1/3 innings, scattering only five hits while walking two to earn his fourth win of the season (4-9). Edwin Walker entered the game in the eighth inning and closed out the contest for his second save. It is the second time the JetHawks have shut out an opponent this season, with both contests coming over the last eight days and by a 4-0 margin.

The JetHawks will go for the sweep tomorrow night in San Bernardino. Dallas Keuchel (4-7) will pitch for the JetHawks against Inland Empire’s Will Savage (2-1). The game begins at 7:05. The game will be broadcast starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:00 on CSN@JetHawks.com and NewsTalk 1380.
