JetHawks End Win with a Triple Play
Lancaster records its first shutout, defeating San Jose 4-0

(SAN JOSE, CA) – The San Jose Giants looked poised for a second straight ninth inning rally, but a rare JetHawks triple play ended the threat and the game as the JetHawks took the series finale with a 4-0 win over the Giants. Lancaster ends up winning two out of three games in the series and ends their first long northern division road trip with a 3-3 split. They also shut out an opponent for the first time in 2010.

The offense staking the pitchers to a first inning lead. Albert Cartwright doubled and Brandon Barnes walked to set the table. With two outs and two strikes Freddy Parejo lined a ball into right field for a RBI single that put the JetHawks on top. Federico Hernandez followed with a run-scoring single of his own and a Giants error put a third run across. Another Giants miscue, followed by back-to-back steals by Lee Cruz, set up Mark Ori’s RBI single in the third inning that made the margin 4-0.

The pitchers took it the rest of the way, with a little help from the defense. Patrick Urckfitz, moving into the starting rotation, continued to excel, shutting down the Giants over five and 1/3 innings, matching a career-high with seven strikeouts. Brian Wabick held the lead with two and 2/3 scoreless innings of his own.

The Giants made things interesting in the ninth, loading the bases with no one out against David Berner. James Simmons then drove a ball all the way to the wall in right field. Barnes made a leaping catch to rob Simmons of a hit. The Giants runners, unsure of if the ball had been caught, froze. Barnes fired the ball into Barry Butera, who tagged two of the runners out to complete a triple play and end the game.

The JetHawks will celebrate Independence Day with a sold-out Fireworks Extravaganza Sunday night at Clear Channel Stadium. Kyle Greenwalt (2-6) will pitch for the JetHawks against Inland Empire’s Josh Walter (0-4). The game begins at 7:00. The game will be broadcast starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:45 on CSN@JetHawks.com and NewsTalk 1380.
