Dydalewicz earns first victory in 4-2 victory over Rancho Cucamonga

(LANCASTER, CA) – The JetHawks received a solid start from Brad Dydalewicz and took advantage of some defensive miscues from Rancho Cucamonga to earn a 4-2 victory over the Quakes at Clear Channel Stadium on Tuesday. The win snapped Lancaster’s season-long seven-game losing streak.

After Dydalewicz tossed a scoreless inning in the top of the first, the JetHawks capitalized on a Rancho Cucamonga error in the bottom of the frame. Jay Austin reached on a fielding error by Quakes shortstop Darwin Perez and took second when Freddy Parejo hit a one-out single. Mark Ori drove in Austin and Parejo with a two-run bloop double into right field, which put Lancaster in front 2-0.

Rancho Cucamonga sliced the lead in half in the top of the third when Roberto Lopez delivered an RBI single that plated Tyson Auer.

The JetHawks immediately answered with a run in the bottom of the frame. After Austin hit a leadoff single, Quakes starter Matt Shoemaker made an errant throw to first base. The botched pickoff attempt enabled Austin to go from first to third. Moments later, Albert Cartwright knocked in Austin with an RBI groundout that gave Lancaster a 3-1 advantage. Three of Lancaster’s four runs in the contest were unearned.

Lancaster added some insurance in the bottom of the fourth when Brandon Barnes socked Shoemaker’s first pitch over the left field wall for a leadoff home run. It was Barnes’ seventh home run of the season, which puts him among the California League leaders in homers, and extended Lancaster’s lead to 4-1.

Dydalewicz (1-3) allowed an unearned run in the top of the fifth, but the 20-year-old southpaw allowed just five hits and two runs five innings of work. As a result, he picked up his first win as a member of the JetHawks and shaved more than a run off his earned run average.

Relievers Mike Modica, Brian Wabick and David Berner combined to toss four scoreless innings to preserve the victory for Lancaster. Shoemaker (2-3) took the loss for Rancho Cucamonga and Berner earned his sixth save of the season. With the win, Lancaster improved to 14-24. The loss dropped Rancho Cucamonga to 22-18.

The JetHawks will take on Rancho Cucamonga in game two of the three-game set at the Hangar on Wednesday. Lefty Shane Wolf (2-2, 4.95 ERA) gets the start for Lancaster. The Quakes are expected to counter with right-hander Manaurys Correa (1-5, 6.00 ERA).
