Lancaster scores four unanswered runs in the final two innings to secure 6-4 triumph
(ADELANTO, CA) – The JetHawks rallied to score four runs in the final two innings and secured their first series victory of the season with a 6-4 win over High Desert at Mavericks Stadium Thursday. Lancaster will seek its second series victory in a four-game weekend set against Inland Empire at Clear Channel Stadium, which begins Friday night at 7.
The JetHawks grabbed the early lead by scoring a pair of runs in the top of the second. With two runners on and one out, Jay Austin ripped an RBI single that scored Federico Hernandez. Albert Cartwright followed with a sacrifice fly, which plated Rayner Contreras and put Lancaster in front 2-0.
The game quickly turned into a pitchers’ duel as JetHawks starter Ross Seaton and High Desert’s Kenn Kasparek each tossed multiple scoreless innings.
High Desert finally got to Seaton in the bottom of the sixth. After Seaton loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk, Nate Tenbrink smacked a three-run triple into left-center field. An error by JetHawks left fielder Freddy Parejo enabled Tenbrink to score on the play and give the Mavericks a 4-2 edge.
Trailing 4-2 in the top of the eighth, Lancaster scored twice off Mavericks reliever Travis Mortimore. Jay Austin belted a solo home run, his third consecutive game with a round-tripper, leading off the inning. Later in the frame, David Flores delivered an RBI single that plated Parejo and evened the score at 4-4.
After JetHawks reliever Brian Wabick set down the Mavericks in order in the bottom of the eighth, Lancaster scored twice in the top of the ninth to reclaim the lead. The JetHawks took advantage of two High Desert errors in the inning and Parejo laced an RBI double to center field to give Lancaster a 6-4 advantage.
Wabick (2-1) worked a scoreless inning in the bottom of the ninth to seal the victory for the JetHawks. Mavericks reliever Steven Richard (0-2) took the loss for High Desert. The JetHawks improved to 9-17 with the win. The loss dropped High Desert to 15-12.
